Overview

Casa Lo Schiavo - fornelli e putia, nestled on Via Risorgimento in the charming town of Santa Marina Salina, offers a remarkable blend of traditional Aeolian flavors and contemporary culinary creativity. This restaurant, once a bustling market, now transformed into a cozy and inviting space, retains its unique character with a subtle market corner inside, enhancing its warm and authentic atmosphere.

The location itself is ideal for visitors exploring the Aeolian Islands, especially those seeking an intimate dining experience immersed in local culture. The main street setting, paired with soft street lighting in the evening, makes it a perfect spot for both casual dinners and special gatherings. Families, groups, and couples alike will find the ambiance welcoming, with attentive and friendly staff who elevate the overall experience.

The menu at Casa Lo Schiavo is a tribute to Sicily's rich culinary heritage, spotlighting fresh seafood and local ingredients. Highlights include the Spaghetti alla Eoliana, a simple yet brilliantly balanced dish where al dente pasta meets a spicy sugo enriched with olives, tomatoes, capers, chili, and breadcrumbs. Another standout is the Caponata di Spada, a flavorful swordfish dish prepared in the authentic Aeolian style. The Insalata di Polpo resonates with freshness and traditional Mediterranean seasoning, making it a must-try.

Beyond pasta and seafood, the restaurant offers delightful shared plates like the Tagliere Salumi e Formaggi, perfect for social dining and tasting local cheeses and cured meats. For a surprising touch, the filled white onion recommended by a regular patron exemplifies the inventive use of local produce and spices, delivering a harmonious balance between tender texture and flavorful fillings.

Desserts at Casa Lo Schiavo present a refined closure to your meal. The Semifreddo al Pistacchio and Semifreddo al Nocciola showcase creamy textures paired with subtle salty notes from nuts, while the Tiramisù al Pistacchio offers a unique twist on the classic Italian finish. Guests have also praised custom creations outside the menu, such as a rich dark chocolate and mandarin gelato, reflecting the kitchen’s willingness to tailor the experience.

The wine list complements the menu splendidly, featuring a curated selection that enhances each dish without overwhelming the palate. Cocktail offerings deserve special mention, with the barman’s inventive mixes becoming a highlight for many visitors seeking a memorable drink expertly paired with their meal.

This restaurant is amazing!! Great atmosphere with a wide selection of wines, great service and authentic food. I was dying to eat seafood pasta (we travelled in low season so not that easy to find one), and the chef made me one with plenty of shrimps, patella and mussels - even if it’s not on the menu! And for dessert I had dark chocolate with mandarin - we should normalize dark chocolate flavor for gelato please!

Our new favorite spot in Salina. The food is incredible, flavourful, creative and delicious. You must try the cocktails, ask the barman for his recommendation, we had an amazing cocktail invented by him, so good we came back the next day for another!

Stopped in Salina during our week-long sail around the Aeolian Islands. This restaurant graciously welcomed our rambunctious group of 8, and they took such good care of us. We had the swordfish (typical Aeolian way) and octopus special, and for desert- chocolate semifreddo with orange and tiramisu…so delicious. They also have a boutique hotel next door that looks quite nice.

The restaurant is located in the main passeggiata street of SM Salina. It used to be a market several years ago and it has been transformed into a cosy restaurant with still a little market inside. All together makes this place unique and provides a nice atmosphere. Sitting on the street with cosy lights adds to this atmosphere. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They were attentive and took good care of us. The owner told us the story on how the market was transformed into a refreshing traditional and still modern place. The lady of the house, photo model like, added some trendiness and fashion to the whole. We have been told a large list of fuori menu and exactly among this list was this huge filled white oignon. What a delicious surprise. The filling was very tasty and the oignon itself was tender and very delicate in taste. It was a nice balance of the spiced filling and the tender oignons shells around. The Spaghetti alla eoliana was for me the best course of the whole menu we selected. They were just perfectly al dente and the sugo with the few ingredients like olives, tomatoes, capers, chili and the mollica (bread crumbs) hit definitely my taste. Spicy, a little bit hot and juicy due to the tomatoes. A great pasta, simple but amazingly tasty! Mmmmh For main course we have selected the Alalunga, a tuna style fish also in eolianian style. Tender, tasty and delicious. For the finish we have had two different Semifreddo, one Pistacchio, one noci fichi (nuts figs), both parfait melting desserts. It was a dolce how you expect it, sweet but a bit salty due the different nuts ingredients and creamy of course. Delicious All in all, I can recommend the place for its delicious food, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere and interesting concept.

Casa Lo Schiavo is an absolute gem. The owner Maximo was so warm and welcoming. He shared the history of how this family restaurant came to life and it’s quite evident how his family’s passion for great food from this region easily sets this restaurant apart. Samuele, our waiter was so knowledgeable about wines from the region and gave a superb recommendation. The food was outstanding as well, all adding to a perfect dinner in the beautiful town of Salina. I would highly recommend without a doubt!

Absolutely adored our meal here last night. Group of 8 with our a reservation but we were welcomed as if we are family. The ambiance outside is lovely but we sat inside and enjoyed a more vibrant meal among the shelves of wine and open kitchen. The food cocktails and desserts were all excellent. Special love for the meatballs and the secret pesto pasta dish!
